Summary: The Biochemistry, Cell Biology and Molecular Pharmacology group in Cambridge is dedicated to working closely with chemistry colleagues in discovering novel small molecule therapeutics for immunological & neurological diseases and overcoming cancer resistance. Our primary role is to develop and apply robust biochemical and cell biology tools that enable small molecule drug discovery. These critical components of the drug discovery process provide in vitro data that guide early discovery and underpin their performance in preclinical disease settings. The data generated ultimately allows selection of drug candidates and forms an essential element in IND filings with the FDA for clinical development.
Description: BMS is seeking a highly motivated individual with expertise in mammalian cell culture to join the Leads Discovery and Optimization group supporting multiple disease areas across R&D. This individual will culture cell lines to support a range of R&D functions including high-throughput screening, lead optimization, and target validation. Working as part of interdisciplinary teams, this role involves all aspects of culture maintenance, transfection, selection of stable cell lines, cell line characterization, and QC. The ideal candidate will be experienced in standard molecular biology techniques and automated cell culture as well as have hands-on experience working with recombinant cell lines, primary cells, and stem cells including iPSCs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Mammalian Cell culture: cell seeding, splitting, harvesting, plating and banking
PBMC and primary immune cell preparation and expansion
Developing SOPs for newly acquired cell lines
Interface with customers to provide cellular reagent requests and trouble-shooting assistance
Cell culture QC and analysis: cell density, cell viability, growth profiling, purity and cell surface marker expression
Cell inventory management
Transient transfection and cell harvesting
Operation of automated cell culture robotic platforms
Key experiences and qualities:
Extensive cell culture experience
Ability to master new skills, methods and technologies is essential
FACS analysis/sorting experience is highly desirable
Self-driving, able to conduct daily work with minimum supervision
Organized, able to maintain and track multiple interspersed activities
Excel at trouble shooting and creative solutions to solve technical challenges
Detail oriented with good record-keeping skills
Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with fixed timelines
Good communication and interpersonal skills, at ease with other team members & collaborators
Qualifications:
BS or MS degree in biology or related field
2-5 years of laboratory experience post baccalaureate
