CORE JOB FUNCTION(S):
• Use current/new techniques to address questions of drug mechanism of action, drug combinations, drug, sensitivity/resistance and patient enrichment strategies for potential cancer therapeutics
• Identify relevant biomarkers, create/validate appropriate assays, and work with CRO’s to evaluate these markers in clinical trials of small molecule or antibody therapeutics
• Serve as translational lead for Phase I and II trials of small molecule inhibitors and/or antibody therapeutics and as core team member on project teams
• Set up and utilize a wide range of oncology models for translational studies
• Design and oversee molecular, cellular in vitro and/or in vivo studies at contract laboratories
• Co-author pharmacology study reports, clinical trial documents, and scientific publications and presentations
• Contribute to accomplishment of departmental and project team goals
• Identify appropriate published data and apply state of the art techniques to translational projects
• Work with bioinformatics experts, biostatisticians, pharmacologists, and clinicians to use preclinical and clinical data to make key pipeline decisions
• Advise discovery teams on translational strategy
• Participate in Business Development activities
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES (KSA's):
• PhD, post-doc and at least 7 additional years of experience in the field of molecular/cell biology, physiology, toxicology, translational development, pharmacology or other relevant field.
• Strong drug development skills from drug discovery and translational research in pharma or biotech
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Superb interpersonal skills
• Effective manager of associates with BS/MS degrees and scientists with PhD degrees
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Flexible in case of changing priorities
