Director of Research Solutions

We are currently seeking a highly collaborative Data Engineer with a background in the design and implementation of automated data pipelines and software development. You will be an integral member of the Knowledge Science Research team within Informatics & Predictive Sciences, a world-class team of researchers and drug hunters focused on applying AI to achieve unprecedented productivity gains in Research and Early Development (R&ED).

As Director of Research Solutions at Bristol Myers Squibb, you will be leading a diverse and agile team using modern tools and cloud-based technologies. You will collaborate closely across the Informatics and Predictive Sciences organization - with data scientists, software developers and research engineers to develop scientific data pipelines capable of extracting, transforming and loading datasets for use throughout drug discovery process. Your experience working with database systems, designing data models and optimizing data flow will allow you to have real impact and influence on the overall design of the data architecture. This hands-on role interfaces closely with our computational researchers and enables programs spanning both discovery and translational sciences where processing and interpreting multi-platform and multi-dimensional data in pre-clinical and clinical settings. We are seeking a collaborative team member with experience building data solutions to make data accessible and actionable for the R&ED community.

Key responsibilities

Design and implementation of automated data processing pipelines, ETL and data models.

Plan, build and manage internal data repositories that integrate vast amounts of genomic, phenotypic and screening data from public, internal and partner sources.

Work with minimal supervision on the full software project lifecycle, from requirements capture through to planning and execution.

Develop the knowledge necessary to successfully carry out data engineering tasks involving datasets specific to the drug discovery domain.

Provide mentorship to more junior members of the team.

Stay informed on new technology developments, evaluate for potential benefits to our platform and devise plans for their implementation.

Qualifications

Team player with an inclusive mindset that is willing to listen and learn from others.

A Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in relevant discipline (e.g. Data Science, Computer Science, Cheminformatics, Epidemiology or a related field.

Excellent scientific programming skills (e.g. R, Python).

Experience with database systems, both relational and non-relational, SQL syntax, schema design and query optimization.

Proven track record of developing and implementing data pipelines, ideally using cloud based technologies.

Excellent collaboration and communication skills are essential.

Passionate about the idea of discovering novel therapeutics through the application of AI-assisted technology.

Beneficial skills and experience

Working with scientific data and knowledge collections and their query interfaces to enable research hypotheses

Experience with cloud infrastructure platforms such as Amazon Web Services and workflow orchestration systems.

Working knowledge of Rest APIs and containerization and container orchestration such as Docker and Kubernetes.

Experience with continuous integration and deployment frameworks such as Jenkins and Travis.

Experience with machine learning and major machine learning frameworks such as scikit-learn, Pytorch, and Keras.

Open source contributions in scientific software development.

Proficiency with current software engineering methodologies, such as Agile, source control, project management and issue tracking
