Astellas is announcing a Research Associate II, Cell Based Therapies
opportunity at their Astellas Institute of Regenerative Medicine (AIRM)
site in Westborough, MA.
Purpose:
We are seeking a highly motivated and energetic Research Associate to join the Research and Development team. This candidate will assist and troubleshoot exploratory research projects by performing mammalian cell culture, cell, and molecular biology, and maintain accurate records for potential clinical applications. This position is highly collaborative, with on-the-job training to support the driven candidate's development and success.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Perform mammalian cell culture (stem cells or epithelial/endothelial cells) using aseptic techniques
Ability to follow established protocols and execute in vitro assays, including transwell culture systems, cell viability assays, flow cytometry, and cell imaging
Maintains detailed, accurate record-keeping, contributing to SOPs and technical reports
Ensures availability of experimental materials
Familiarity with in vivo models
Summarizes results and communicates independently to team members
Quantitative Dimensions:
Understands and effectively conducts in vitro and in vivo experimentation to meet business objectives
Contributes to scientific discussion
Organizational Context:
Reports to Sr Scientist, R&D
Communicates with other members of multidisciplinary teams.
Requirements
Qualifications:
Required:
BS with 3 years, or MS with 0-2 years of relevant laboratory experience.
Solid cell culture experience using aseptic technique, e.g. seeding, passaging, maintaining cells in culture, and banking cells
Familiarity with cell-based functional assays
Comfortable with in vivo models
Scientific curiosity coupled with desire to learn new skills
Superb written and oral communication skills to foster collaboration
Proficiency in Excel or GraphPad Prism, Word, PowerPoint
Ability to work flexible schedule, including weekends
Must have lawful immigration status to work legally for US firms
Preferred:
Experience with human adult stem cell culture, mesenchymal stem cells and endothelial/epithelial cells.
Experience with in vitro barrier models, such as cell stress, cell polarization, extravasation, transepithelial/endothelial electrical resistance.
Experience with microscope imaging, ELISA and PCR.
Expertise on cell lineage characterization immunoassays using flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, cell isolation using FACS sorting and magnetic beads isolation, etc.
Hands-on in vivo model experience (handling or in-life data capture)
