is announcing a Technical Lead or Group Lead
opportunity at their facility in Seattle, WA
Purpose:
The primary purpose of the Technical or Group Lead position, in a Scientific or Technical function, is to collaboratively plan and execute experiments, apply established scientific techniques and/or department processes to support a specific research team or department. This position will proficiently execute a wide range of techniques and processes with high technical quality, as a key contributor in a specific research area or team. Contributions will further team efficiencies, maintain process continuity and reliability of results; will demonstrate effective communications internally within the team; be a leader and role model in the laboratory environment; and contribute to research, innovation and continuous improvement within the designated research team or department.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Advanced understanding of at least one fundamental research area or discipline with strong working knowledge of scientific techniques and/or department processes.
Able to utilize a wide range of scientific techniques and troubleshoot moderately complex problems within assigned research area or team.
Demonstrates significant technical knowledge and process understanding for a specific research area, research team or department based on deep understanding of required research methodology.
Evaluates and defines approaches to work and coordinates the research efforts to support the assigned area of responsibility.
Analyzes data, interprets results and clearly communicates results to peers, Scientists and Team Leaders.
Makes key technical contributions affecting the direction of the group and/or project.
May lead team meetings and present at cross-functional team meetings.
May review the work, data or findings of new or more junior research team members.
Specific duties may vary depending on area of research expertise or experience.
Performs other duties as assigned or special projects as needed.
Quantitative Dimensions:
Scope and complexity will vary depending on designated research area or team. Will generally be responsible for quality of work product, experiments, etc. within designated research area or team.
Organizational Context:
Reports to Senior Scientist, Team Leader or Department Head. Typically is able to provide directon to new or more junior Researchers with regards to specific department protocol and procedures.
Will mentor junior RAs and may have a small team of direct reports.
Requirements
Qualifications:
Required:
BS with typically 8-10 years or more of laboratory experience; MS with 7 years of lab experience.
Degree in Life Sciences or related discipline
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-based scientific environment
Ability to think outside the box and tackle challenges with a problem-solving, can-do attitude
Ability to multitask and support multiple projects simultaneously
Ability to maintain flexibility for changing priorities
Take initiative with demonstrated ability to think analytically and describe to others
A collaborative, role model and team player; good lab citizen
Enthusiasm and passion for executing innovative scientific research in a team environment
High attention to detail and organization
Effective and proactive communication
Preferred:
Experience managing 1-2 direct reports
Prior experience training or teaching others in a laboratory setting
